Who is Gallia County Transit for?

Gallia County Transit is available to everyone! There are no requirements to qualify, and riders may use the service for any reason.

How much does it cost?

There are no fares to ride Gallia County Transit and it is available to everyone!

Where can it take me?

Gallia County Transit can take you anywhere you need to go, anywhere in the
county. For trips outside Gallia County, we partner with transit services in
neighboring counties; please call for more details.

Are the vehicles handicap accessible?

Yes, all vehicles are fully accessible and designed to accommodate riders of all
mobility levels, and all drivers are trained to assist with mobility aids.
The driver will secure all wheelchairs and help secure packages and assist with
seatbelts if needed.
Gallia County Transit is a door-to-door pickup service. The driver may assist you
to and from the door when boarding or leaving the vehicle but is not permitted to
enter a residence or building.
Drivers are not required to assist with transporting items from the vehicle to the
residence or building. An escort or personal care attendant may accompany you.

How do I schedule a ride?

To schedule a ride, call us at 740-209-2990 between the hours of 8am and 4pm.
or give your email to our scheduler to sign up for our trip portal. The trip portal
allows riders to request and cancel rides and check on your driver arrival time.
Please call at least 24 hours in advance, as trips are available on a first-come,
first-served basis. Next-day and same-day trips can be scheduled, if available.
Trips cannot be scheduled by telling a driver. Passengers may be asked for the
following information when scheduling trips: Name, home address, telephone
number, pick-up/drop-off addresses, desired arrival or drop-off time, social security
for medical trips, and if any special accommodations are needed.

When will you pick me up?

Gallia County Transit has a 30-minute pick-up window. This means the vehicle can
arrive between 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after your scheduled pick-up time.
If there is no response within 5 minutes of our vehicle arriving at your location, you
will be considered a No Show.

Passengers who have no-shows equal to or greater than 25% of the scheduled
trips in a thirty (30) day period will be provided a written warning. In order to be
subject to a warning or suspension, a passenger must have booked a minimum of
three (3) trips or more in a calendar month. Example: If a passenger books five (5)
trips and no-shows 25% of the time, they will be in violation of the no-show policy
and subject to the progressive corrective action plan.

What can I use it for?

This service is available to all riders for any reason.
It can be used for errands, commuting to and from work, medical appointments, or
visiting friends or family. For trips outside Gallia County, we partner with transit
services in neighboring counties; please call for more details!

When can it pick me up?

Gallia County Transit operates Monday – Friday from 8am – 4pm.

How do I cancel a ride?

To cancel a ride, call us at 740-209-2990 at least 24 hours before your scheduled trip.
If the vehicle arrives to pick you up and the driver can’t contact you, or you have
failed to cancel your trip at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled pickup time, you
will be considered a No Show. Due to the cost and inconvenience this causes, GCT
reserves the right to deny trips in accordance with the no-show policy. If you are
recorded as a No Show for 25% or more of your scheduled rides within a calendar
year, your service may be suspended. You can appeal your suspension by calling
Gallia County Transit at 740-209-2990 and asking to speak to the Transportation
Administrator.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are not allowed on Gallia County Transit. Certified service animals are welcome.
The animal must always be under the rider’s control.

Will I be riding with other people?

This is a shared ride service.
Riders are expected to be respectful and courteous to others. Please do not eat,
drink, smoke, vape, chew tobacco, play loud music, engage in loud conversation,
curse, touch or disturb others in the vehicle.

Public Safety

Lifts/Ramps

All vehicles are lift- and ramp-equipped and are designed for riders using mobility devices.

Ambulatory riders should use the steps with driver assistance. Riders must inform the driver in

advance if they prefer to use the lift or ramp so the driver can assist safely.

Scooters

Riders using scooters are welcome. Riders should board on foot with driver assistance and transfer

to a regular seat to be safely secured with a seat belt. The scooter will be secured separately to

prevent tipping. Riders should not remain seated on scooters while the vehicle is moving.

Portable Assistive Devices

Drivers will ensure all mobility aids (canes, walkers, braces, etc.) are safely stowed and secured

after the rider is seated and buckled. Devices should be placed where they won’t block aisles or

become a hazard during sudden stops. Drivers will return the device to the rider before assisting

them off the vehicle.

Wheelchairs

Lift platforms are 30" wide and 48" long and can safely hold up to 800 lbs (rider, chair, and

accessories combined). Mobility devices must be secured in the designated area and not block the

aisle. Wheelchair riders should be secured with a torso pad or seat belt to stay safely in place

during loading, unloading, and transport. The driver will assist with securement as trained.

Seat Belts

All Gallia Transit drivers and passengers are required to fasten their safety belts before the

vehicle moves. The driver will ensure that usable seat belts are available for all passengers and

that everyone is properly belted in before the vehicle moves. Gallia County Transit will not be

held responsible for injuries resulting from passengers unfastening or loosening their seat belts,

to the extent that the rider is no longer considered safely strapped in after the driver checked

that they are fastened.

Child Seats

Conventional seat belts are safe for use by children only if they weigh more than 40 lbs. Children

smaller than 40 pounds may ride only if the person scheduling the ride provides an “approved” child

seat that can be secured with a conventional seat belt. It is not legal for other riders to hold a

child or infant on their lap while the vehicle is in motion. Under 4 years of age or less than 40 pounds

required to be in a child safety seat according to car seat instructions. Gallia County Transit requires all

passengers to wear a seatbelt at all times, regardless of their age.

Rider Requirements

All Gallia County Transit riders are expected to behave respectfully while riding the bus. Actions

that distract the driver, disrupt service or interfere with other passengers are not allowed.

Violent, illegal or unsafe behavior is prohibited. Riders should follow posted rules and directions

from transit staff to help ensure a safe and comfortable trip for everyone.

Rider Rules and Responsibilities

Seat Belts: Riders must wear seat belts and remain seated while the bus is in motion. Remove seat

belts only after the bus has come to a complete stop.

Driver Limitations: Drivers may not sign riders in or out of facilities, handle medication, assist

with restroom use, or enter riders’ homes.

Personal Belongings: Riders are responsible for their own belongings. Bag limits apply.

Gifts & Tips: Drivers may not accept gifts or tips.

Fragrance: Please limit use of perfumes or colognes.

Animals: Only service animals are permitted. Therapy, comfort, and emotional support animals are

not allowed.

Conduct: Loud, abusive, rude, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Riders must maintain

orderly conduct; drivers are not responsible for mediating disputes.

Prohibited Activities: No smoking, vaping, eating, or drinking on the bus. Smoking (including

e-cigarettes) is prohibited within 20 feet of the vehicle.

Weapons: Weapons, explosives, and large knives are strictly prohibited.

Surveillance: Buses may be equipped with audio and video recording for safety.

Title VI

GCT operates in compliance with Title VI of the ADA Act and does not discriminate on the basis of

ADA

Individuals with mobility disabilities are welcome to use wheelchairs and manually powered mobility

aids, i.e., walkers, crutches, canes, braces, or other similar devices designed for use by

individuals with mobility disabilities. We also transport individuals traveling with portable

oxygen tanks and respirators. These must be secured in the vehicles. We are a shared-ride,

demand-response, public transportation company offering service to people of all ages in Gallia

County. We transport people to work, medical appointments, shopping and other community resources.

Our vans are ADA accessible.

Reasonable Modifications

Individuals needing a service accommodation or modification must notify Gallia County Transit of
